Handling questions about life and faith with children
When the world of the child connects with the world of the God story, a multitude of questions arise as a child tries to make sense of LIFE and FAITH. These questions are ‘gold’ and so our approach to handling them and their responses is of vital importance to all of us. Explore some of the key principles involved in beginning to give some answers.

Relational Leadership
Because we serve children we are all leaders. What does it mean to be a leader and how can we allow Jesus to shape us to be the best leader for our young people? Even though leadership can look very different we will revisit some of the key principles to remember and implement in our ongoing relationship with our children.

Games that rock and teach
Making learning fun really enhances a lesson. This session gives ideas for using games intentionally to facilitate learning.

Sketching made easy
Even people who claim to have not artistic talent can learn to sketch in a simple and fun way to illustrate their teaching.

Preparing and planning a session
Preparation is required regardless of whether you are writing a lesson from and scratch or using teaching material that is provided. This session will give principles that make planning easy and effective so that you can create lessons or use the provided material well.

Puppets for one
When you go into a class room on your own, you can’t take a big puppet theatre, and you don’t have a team to use it. You can use puppets when you are on your own, without having to be a master ventriloquist. This session will also give ideas on building puppet scripts from existing children’s ministry material, such as Search and Quest.

Puppets with a team
An introduction to the essential elements of puppetry. This session includes various ways to use puppets with a team and a puppet theatre. The basic skills of puppet manipulation will be covered, including entering and exiting, lip synchronisation, positioning etc.

Using PowerPoint
Learn how to quickly create effective visuals that can be displayed with a data projector. This session will give ideas on making visuals for games, stories, or teaching.

Story Telling
Jesus captivated crowds with his teachings. One of the ways he did that was by telling stories. Learn how to prepare and deliver stories in a way that will grab the attention of your listeners, and helps them to formulate their faith through the stories that they hear.

Practical Teaching Strategies Using the CRE Material
Please bring your teacher’s book with you to this elective.

Engaging Children with the Bible
Exploring techniques, tools and creative ideas for connecting children with the biblical narrative and engaging them in the story-telling experience.

Engaging your local community
How do we engage, love and serve our local community?  In this workshop we will explore opportunities we have for making a difference in our local community and consider the questions we can ask and the steps we might take in developing ministry that has impact and is sustainable.

Using Drama with Children
Children love getting involved in what they are learning and the world around us provides an endless source of concepts, ideas, issues and experiences that can be explored through drama. In this workshop we’ll look at the value both for children and for the learning process of including drama in your program and explore a variety of ways children can be involved in this type of creative experience.

Behaviour Management
Principles of discipline that help you maintain control.
